of archaeological fieldwork expertise:

El-Markha Plain (South Sinai):

This area contains New Kingdom and Roman period occupation at an anchorage and copper smelting site (no.346) and Roman-Byzantine occupation at a limestone, circular fort (42 metres in diameter with 5 metre thick walls and chambers preserved up to 3 metres in height). Survey and excavations: 2001-2 (on-going). Status: Project director (SSHRCC funding 2002-6).

Tell Tebilla (Northeast Delta, Egypt):

Tell Tebilla contains Old Kingdom, Second Intermediate Period, and Dynasty 21-31 to Ptolemaic-Roman period occupation, with excavations concentrating upon mortuary, occupation, and cultic contexts. Survey and excavations: 1999-2001 (on-going). Status: Project director (SSHRCC funding 1999-2002).

Tell Borg (North Sinai):

Excavation units with New Kingdom occupation; excavation focused upon a stone installation in a pit, associated with a New Kingdom fortress and a cemetery. Participation: 2001. Status: Field instructor/supervisor (for Project Director, Professor J. Hoffmeier, Trinity International University).

Tell Qedwa (North Sinai):

Excavation of a Dynasty 26 (Saite Period) fortress and an earlier Dynasty 26 settlement (partly cut by fortress foundations). Participation: 1993. Status: Area supervisor (Project director Donald Redford, University of Toronto/Pennsylvania State University).

Tell Rub’a/Mendes (Northeast Delta, Egypt):

Excavation units with Archaic through Roman period occupation. Participation: 1990-1994 and 1998-99, excavating Archaic period settlement, late Old Kingdom to First Intermediate Period housing, mastabas, and burials, Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom pottery deposits (cultic offerings), Third Intermediate Period to Late Period landfill, Persian period storehouse (advising site supervisor A. de Rodrigo), and Roman period lime-processing kiln. Status: Area supervisor (for Project directors Robert Wenke and Douglas Brewer [1990], and Donald Redford, University of Toronto / Pennsylvania State University [1991-94; 1998-99]).

East Karnak (Luxor):

Excavation units with Middle Kingdom through Ptolemaic period occupation.

Participation: 1988-1991, supervising work on Middle Kingdom to Second Intermediate period occupation, excavating Dynasty 18 Gem-pa-aten temple foundations, excavating Ramesside, Third Intermediate Period, Kushite-Saite, and Late Period housing, and clearing Greco-Roman period pottery deposits. Status: Site and Area supervisor (for Project director Donald Redford, University of Toronto).

Merneptah's Tomb (Valley of the Kings):

Dating to Dynasty 19 (New Kingdom).

Participation: 1990, drawing sections of the well shaft and generating views of the sarcophagus of Merneptah. Status: Draftsperson (for Project director Edwin Brock, Canadian Institute in Egypt).

Dakhleh Oasis (Western Desert, Egypt):

Dating to the Epipalaeolithic, Neolithic, and Roman periods.

Participation: 1990, assisting Dr. Mary McDonald (University of Calgary) in foot survey work (transects) locating prehistoric sites, and mapping and excavating Epipalaeolithic (Masara) and Neolithic hut circles and lithic scatters; assisting sorting of bones from Second Intermediate Period and Roman burials; restoring Roman period pottery. Status: Field assistant (on Dakhleh Oasis Project; Project director Tony Mills).

Excavation unit with Iron Age I, Roman, and Byzantine period remains (Roman-Byzantine estate). Participation: 1987. Status: Student and volunteer attending the Hebrew University in Jerusalem archaeological fieldschool (directed by Dr. S. Gitin and Dr. T. Dothan).

Potato Mountain - Eagle Lake (Western Canada):

Encompassing the lower basin of Eagle Lake and the Alpine and Parkland regions of Potato Mountain, tracing Chilcotin use of these areas, collecting root crops for winter subsistence in prehistoric and historic times.

Participation: 1985 survey work (quadrants), mapping topography, features, and lithic scatters; excavating a hut pit, and cache and roasting pits; reconstructing a winter lodge. Status: Student (attending University of British Columbia fieldschool, directed by Professor R.G. Matson).
